October 27th, 2020

The Rotary Club of Deptford, along with Four Star Catering, had the pleasure of welcoming the American Red Cross today, October 27th, 2020, for the start of the South Jersey Blood Drive Series. From 2-7pm today, appointments or walk-ins may be scheduled to donate blood and receive FREE COVID-19 antibody testing.

The Rotary Club of Deptford is committed to serving the Deptford Township and our Gloucester County non-profit community. Giving opportunities to organizations like the Deptford Township Rotary Club and American Red Cross is just scratching the surface of what is possible when you combine local business with community engagement.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am personally not afraid of what this COVID-19 virus will do to us locally at the moment.

However, after speaking with my friends at the state and federal levels of healthcare, they (and our club officers) have recommended that we cancel our regularly scheduled meetings. While I personally do not agree, I represent all of you, not just myself. Our District 7505 conference has already been canceled, as well as many other Rotary club fundraisers across our district for the coming months. Also, Rowan University has restricted all of my coursework to online only and I was given an extra week for spring break. All of this is something that I hope is an overreaction, but we can never take it for granted.

As most of our club is in the prime age category for the virus to spread, I don't want our organization to develop into something that will cause more harm than good to the membership.

As of this moment, we will be tentatively scheduling our board meeting on March 27th. As of now, the next two weeks meetings are canceled so more information may be developed about this virus and we can make a more informed decision as a club as to what to do at that meetings. I will inform you of our board meeting status as we get closer to that date.

If you would like more information about the virus, please check out this dashboard from our Department of Health here: https://www.state.nj.us/health/cd/topics/covid2019_dashboard.shtml

Stay healthy and vigilant!

Respectfully,

David Kryszczak
President

On Friday, March 6th, The Deptford Rotary Club (DRC) changed pace and hosted a meeting at the Red Lobster located in Deptford Township. Like all Rotary meetings, this led great conversation in a round-table style setup and allowed for amazing fellowship!

Like most meetings, The DRC welcomed Mr. Tracy Harrell, Area Recruiter for Child Protection & Permanency for the Department of Children & Families in the State of New Jersey as our guest speaker to discuss how local non-profits and dedicated leaders in communities like Deptford can support foster children and adoption efforts.

Deptford Rotary Club President David Kryszczak attended The Mid-Atlantic President-elect Training Seminar (MAPETS) on February 28 – 29 at The Valley Forge Casino Resort to receive training for his incumbent year as Club President for the 2020-2021 Rotary Year. Fun fact: Rotary International’s year is from July to June!

MAPETS included keynote speakers from Rotary International and a recipient of the Toastmasters International Speech Contest for 2019. Also, networking with Rotarians from neighboring Districts 7390, 7430, 7450, and 7505 allowed for fellowship among emerging leaders to share ideas about how to propel Rotary into the next decade on the club level.

Throughout January 2020, the Deptford Rotary Club (DRC) gathered monetary donations, primarily from SERVPRO of Woodbury/Deptford, to organize the procurement, packaging, and delivery of over 60, "Blizzard Bags" for Meals on Wheels of Gloucester County. The bags included non-perishable food items for families in need and have already been distributed at the time of this release. The Blizzard Bags were packaged by Deptford High School Rotary Interact Club. This is an annual service project completed by the DRC.

On February 14th, 2020, the Deptford Rotary Club (DRC) had the pleasure of welcoming Junior Achievement of New Jersey to speak on their impact on K-12 education with FREE courses like financial literacy, soft speaking skills, and respect for all students of all levels. Not only was it an amazing guest duo that visited, but to hear on how these ideas can be integrated to Deptford Township School District was something the DRC will actively be pursuing in the near future thanks to the referral by Ray Kratz to have these wonderful ladies speak! Have a blessed weekend.
